Moving In, Manly and Goodbye’s

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

hmm, we seem to have accumulated alot of stuff!Being travellers for the last 4 months you would have thought moving into our “proper” flat in Surry Hills would have been easy. As you can see from the picture we seem to have accumulated quite a bit of stuff over the last few weeks from food to a boogie board and golf clubs! The move went well, Dan being at work, Peter and me decided to book a station wagon (an estate taxi!) rather than saving the pennies and using the bus. When we had everything piled up outside I was worried that we would need a bus to fit everything in!

So we are now in our flat and somewhere we can stay for more than 3 weeks – for the first time in 4.5 months I have been able to put stuff away and put my  ruck sack under the bed. The flat is very ‘Darren’ and is everything we wanted in terms of location, style, size. We’re in the heard of all the pubs / cafes / bistro’s in Surry Hills (bit like Jesmond / Gosforth) and only a 20 minute walk into the city centre. On the downside we aren’t as close to the beach however it’s probably a good thing to prevent me from getting skin cancer!

Kangaroo pastiesTo celebrate moving in, we drank the sparkling red wine we bought up at the Hunter Valley accompanied by Kangaroo Wellington, on recommendation from the guy who sold us the wine. Kangaroo is really similar to beef yet extremely lean and low in fat. You can’t seem to buy one big Kangaroo fillet (like Beef) hence why we ended up with Kangaroo pasties rather than Kangaroo Wellington – you can take the girl away from Greggs but you can’t take Greggs away from the girl! A true winner I reckon!

Before the family left we had a day trip to Manly beach, a 20 minute ferry ride from Sydney. A great way to see the harbour from a different perspective and of course Manly which is a great seaside suburb of Sydney. Barbara & Pete left last Sunday and Peter the following morning – it was so good to see them and as ever sad to see them go.
