Hunter Wineries
Given we have had a couple of trips to the Hunter now, and am frequently asked “where should we go…” I thought I would put up a page to publish the answer I normally given. Hopefully it may attract some comment which may then in turn help us find a few new gems in the Hunter! So, here the last answer I gave as a start:
- Musts:
- Keith Tulloch (upper balcony setting)
- Pepper Tree (great reds)
- Scarborough (great white, tasting served with cheese)
- Tinklers (great small vineyard, winemaker normally serves in the cellar door)
- Audrey Wilkinson (was the 1st there 1866 and a great view – not the best vine)
- Piggs Peake (awesome reds, esp. Shiraz – recommend the “house of bricks”)
- Tulloch (we are members there)
- Others:
- Tyrrells (does a good tour and although mass produce wine for UK, there reserve wines are rated top by James Halliday)
- Tower Esate
- McGuigan (wedding wine is from there!);
- Missable:
- Capercaillie
- Kevin Sobels
- Petersons (champagne – we had a bad tasting experience – stuck up people)
